Ifako-Ijaye LG moves to prevent flood

The Ifako-IjaiyeLocal GovernmentArea of Lagos State is taking all measures to prevent flood.Mr Bankole Taofik, the Assistant Chief Environmental Health Officer of the area, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday.He said that the local government was duty bound to ensure that house-to-house inspection of the drainage system and water channels were done on a daily.Bankole said that the issue of sanitation must be taken with all seriousness in order to prevent flooding.``We go out with our officers everyday to check major drainage system and gutters and also to encourage people to clean their drains,'' he said.According to him, defaulters are usually given a three-day grace to clean their drains, after which they are charged to court.Bankole said that all the seven wards in the council had shown commitment to prevent flood disaster.``No one will go to sleep until drains and channels are free for easy passage of water.He advised residents in other parts of the state to emulate the local government by observing sanitation exercise regularly.
