Liberia unites against Nigeria

THE Liberian Federal Government has successfully mobilised private and business interest to end the country's 10-year-Nations cup jinx.Nigeria and Liberia are tied on 2-2 draw after the first leg of the qualifiers and both need a win to book a place in the finals next year in South Africa.Lone Star Mobilisation Committee, in collaboration with the Government of Liberia has put on the table US$300,000 as a 'winning package,' which points out that each player will be US$10,000 (or L$73,000) richer besides their regular allowances.As a way to trim tensed up the psychological, physical and tactical approach to the game, the Lone Star Mobilization Committee through the influence of Vice President Joseph Boakai was able to raise US$277,000.The Chairman of the Mobilisation Committee, Edwin M. Snowe, disclosed that five government agencies and a foreign business concern donated generously to ensure victory for the Lone Star.Snowe said the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) gave US$63,000, the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL) contributed US$62,000 and the National Port Authority donated US$59,000.Other contributors include the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company US$58,000, the National Social Security and Welfare Corporation (NASSCORP) gave US$25,000 while a foreign business man donated US$10,000.
