Oyo govt urges communal peace, youth development

Published by Tribune on Fri, 12 Oct 2012

OYO State deputygovernor, ChiefMoses Adeyemo, has urged Nigerians to embrace peaceful co-existence for socio-economic and technological progress of the country. He also advised the youth to accord priority to vocational training rather than searching for non-existing white collar jobs.Chief Adeyemo made the appeal while speaking at the 47th Annual Choir Festival of Peace tagged: Celebration of Peace, held at Bodija Estate Baptist Church, Ibadan, recently. The deputy governor, who decried insecurity in Nigeria, attributed the development to the absence of love in many homes which, he said, made peace to be elusive in the country.According to a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr Sola Adegoke, Chief Adeyemo also identified disobedience to constituted authorities as another reason the nation was in turmoil. He said in spite of government enlightenment programmes on environmental sanitation, some residents in the state still engaged in dumping of refuse in streams and waterways with its attendant deadly consequences. As a panacea to the endless cycle of violence in the country, Chief Adeyemo urged Nigerians to love their neighbours as themselves and also embrace the fear of God.He advised parents to teach their children the path of righteousness and encourage them to learn vocational training to be able to meet the challenges of life in view of the high level of unemployment in the country.Earlier in his sermon, the church pastor, Reverend Olu Olajide, lamented that at 52, Nigeria was still bedeviled with crises, anxiety, fear, political unrest, insecurity of life and property and financial crimes, among others, all of which, he said, affected homes and family and consequently made peace unattainable.
