Dean Ambrose vs. Dolph Ziggler: WWE SummerSlam 2016 Preview, Odds and Prediction

Published by Bleacher Report on Fri, 19 Aug 2016

Dean Ambrose versus Dolph Ziggler is a highly anticipated match, and one that should make some serious waves at SummerSlam on Sunday. The Lunatic Fringe is defending the WWEChampionship against The Showoff, who is once again vying for main event glory. This is what WWE is all about. The match itself may have come from out of nowhere, but the more Ziggler fights to make a statement, the more fans are feeling this one. WWE could have gone in any direction and picked any newer talent to fill the spot, but Ziggler is the man in the spotlight. There is arguably no one on SmackDown Live that deserves it more.Ziggler has worked so hard to get back to this point, as he's had the reputation of always being the bridesmaid, not the bride. Other guys like Daniel Bryan and CM Punk came up through the system to get their shots, but Ziggler continued to remain where he was for the bulk of his WWE career. He's had glimpses of the promised land, but he's never had an extended stay there. But in an ironic twist, WWE has exploited this fact and used it every step of the way. The company has received its fair share of criticism over the years for supposedly holding guys like Ziggler down, but now WWE is trolling the crowd like never before.Who else is to blame for Ziggler's lack of main event presence'Of course he's getting a great opportunity now, and if he goes over at SummerSlam, it will be the culmination of eight years' worth of work. A Ziggler win for the WWE Championship would perhaps be the feel-good story of 2016, and there would be no more deserving talent to live that story. But on the other side is another feel-good story.Ambrose was not supposed to be the guy, though he's always had a strong fan following. The focus was always on Shield teammates Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns. Ambrose was the kid brother fighting for respect and hoping that one day people would see him and not his brothers. The kid has made good.Ambrose is the man in WWE now, and it's not just because of the gold around his waist. His overall attitude has seen a real transformation since winning the strap. He's still unpredictable, but he's now much more determined. The Lunatic Fringe character now feels more like a gimmick than it ever has before, and there's nothing wrong with that.Ambrose has made it clear that he's all business. The title did not fall to him because it was his turn; it came to him because he earned it. He's wearing it with a sense of urgency, and it's obvious that he's taking this seriously. The championship may be a work, but Ambrose is treating it like a shoot. It's a good look for him, and it's working on every level.Fans are split on this, and they should be. Ziggler is the sentimental favorite, but Ambrose is the popular choice. Either man could win and it would work. This truly feels like two dedicated workhorses fighting to be the best and fans love it. It's exactly what pro wrestling should be, and WWE has connected with this one.But who's going over'Fans may be split on the answer, but Odds Shark is going with Ambrose for the win. There just seems to be too much value in Ambrose retaining the championship, as he has only just gotten started on his title run.Ziggler has his supporters, but even those supporters have to admit it's an uphill climb for him. He's done everything right, but WWE has never shown any real commitment in terms of highlighting him as a top guy.Ziggler deserves the chance to be the WWE titleholder, but this feels more like a match to build Ambrose's body of work as champion. Both men will undoubtedly fight hard to entertain fans, and both will show great respect to the championship itself, but SummerSlam will belong to Dean Ambrose.
