NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II: Match Card, Full Preview and Predictions

Published by Bleacher Report on Fri, 19 Aug 2016

A wrestling-heavy alternative to the spectacle of SummerSlam will invade New York whenNXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II takes over the Barclays Center Saturday night.In-ring wizards are set to collide for the developmental brand. Samoa Joe and Shinsuke Nakamura will drum fists against flesh in a fight for the NXT Championship. Bayleywill seek redemption and a second reign as the NXT women's champ when she again clashes with the whirlwind force that is Asuka.NXT's second trip to Brooklyn will also feature former TNA world champ Bobby Roode's TakeOver debut and Ember Moon's first NXT bout.SummerSlam has a larger stock of bigger names, including Brock Lesnar and John Cena. There will be more hype and buzz around that event too. But history says NXT will deliver a number of compelling bouts and set the bar high for WWE proper. Match CardEmber Moon vs. Billie KayNo Way Jose vs. Austin AriesThe Revival vs. Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano (NXT Tag Team Championship)Andrade "Cien" Almas vs. Bobby RoodeAsuka vs. Bayley (NXT Women's Championship)Samoa Joe vs. Shinsuke Nakamura (NXT Championship) PredictionsMoon over KayJose over AriesThe Revival over Ciampa and GarganoRoode over AlmasAsuka over BayleyNakamura over JoeMatch PreviewsEmber Moon ArrivesThe former Athena Reese is set to deepen the NXT women's division. With WWE's third brand seeing so many recent departures from Alexa Bliss toNiaJaxduring July's draft, Moon is arriving just in time. She built her name with Shimmer Women Athletes, taking on some of the promotion's top names.WWE has rebranded her in a major way. Her debut vignettes have shown her new character to be mystical, mysterious and outside the box.Fans will get their first full look at Moon when she takes on the hard-kicking Kay. With this being a showcase of the new talent, there is zero chance that Moon stumbles. Jose vs. AriesThis is just the kind of match WWE brought in Aries for. The TNA and Ring of Honor alum will use his experience to help guide the emerging Jose.Jose entered the NXT scene as a grinning, hip-shaking comedy act. His interactions with Aries, though, have brought out a more intense side of him. A beast may emerge where a dancer once stood. This will be an excellent litmus test to see how good of a prospect Jose is.Aries is a ring general and a 16-year veteran. If the Dominican newcomer can't work a good match against The Greatest Man Who Ever Lived, then his stock will plummet in a hurry.Expect Jose to get a signature win to kick off a run up the card. The Revival's Dominance ContinuesAfter felling Enzo Amore and Big Cass and American Alpha, Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder sat at the top of the tag team division with no one poised to push them off. Then in walked Ciampa and Gargano. The favorites from the independent circuit started out as part-time guests at NXT but have since signed full-fledged deals with the brand. They have become one of NXT's most entertaining tag teams, relying on a fun offensive toolbox and great chemistry with each other.Ciampa and Gargano beat each other's brains in when they met in the Cruiserweight Classic tournament a few weeks back. WWE may be planning to use tension born from that meeting to provide this match with a subplot. The Revival, though, has been booked as unstoppable. Dawson and Wilder have used underhanded means and heavy fists to remain NXT's top squad. That's not likely to stop just yet. Roode Moves Toward ContentionThe high-flying Almas will crash into a brick wall when he takes on Roode. In Roode's first TakeOver match, he is set to announce his arrival to NXT. He is one of the more decorated wrestlers on the brand's roster, having been a top star for TNA over the past several years.Look for Roode to start a major winning streak as he climbs toward the NXT title scene. His veteran status and name power suggest he will play a role much like Joe has since his move from TNA.That all begins with him dismantling Cien.Almas, however, promises to have his best NXT match to date here. He has yet to unleash his talent in the ring. On a big stage and against a skilled vet, Almas will look like a star in the making. Bayley's Dream DerailedAt last year's NXT event in Brooklyn, Bayley knocked off Sasha Banks to win the women's title in one of the best matches of the year. The bout invigorated the women's division and created a surplus of buzz around both women. One year later, Bayley is in a familiar position. She's the challenger in pursuit of the gold, with a top-notch performer standing in her way.Bayley's redemption story would be a moving one, but signs point to Asuka retaining. She's been a buzz saw who has cut down each foe sent her way. The champ has yet to lose at NXT.Plus, a Bayley loss frees her up to head to the main roster. That's a move that fans have long waited to see. The King of Strong Style Seizes His ThroneAs good as Finn Balor vs. Seth Rollins promises to be at SummerSlam, the NXT title match may be the weekend's most thrilling contest.Joe has thrived as a seething monster who refuses to let go of the NXT Championship. Nakamura is arguably the most charismatic wrestler working under the WWE umbrella right now.A vicious heel will meet a flamboyant showman. A powerhouse will collide with a kick artiste. The result promises to be mighty fun.Nakamura has only been with the company since April, but he's the kind of star who NXT can build its brand around. Until WWE wises up and moves him to Raw or SmackDown where he belongs, count on The King of Strong Styles ruling over NXT.That reign will begin in Brooklyn after Nakamura puts Joe on his back.
