In order to have stout, booming tagteam divisions,WWE Raw and SmackDown still have work ahead of them after the Superstar Shake-up.Each brand made several moves on Monday and Tuesday, welcoming new faces and rearranging its parts.Raw brought in Heath Slater and Rhyno and slimmed down its tag division.SmackDown added The New Day and The Shining Stars. The red brand's biggest acquisitions, though, came before the Superstar Shake-up. During WrestleMania weekend, Raw snared The Hardy Boyz as free agents and The Revival From NXT.Raw remains ahead of if its blue brethren largely because of those maneuvers.Even so, neither show can be content with the current state of its tag team division. More tinkering is needed. More issues need to be addressed.Let's dive into the state of both brand's tag scene, looking at their strengths and deficiencies.Raw Tag Team DivisionSmackDown Tag Team DivisionStrengths for Both ShowsRaw has a wealth of hard hitters. The Revival, The Club andCesaro and Sheamus can all deliver physical, bruising offense. That's going to make for some compelling action moving forward. The quality of the matches on Raw and Raw-branded pay-per-views promises to be strong overall.Anderson and Gallows had some quality bouts during their recent reign. Cesaro and Sheamus can bring it. Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder of The Revival made a living in NXT off producing great matches in big spots. Fox Sports' Damon Martin talked up the new arrivals' ability to produce in the ring:The Hardys will be slower and stiffer than fans remember from their last WWE run, but their value is more in star power and presence than actual in-ring production. That's where Raw outclasses the blue brand at the moment. The Hardys are far and away the biggest names in either division. Team Red has more former champions, a former world titleholder in Sheamus and more recognizable talent overall.Potential is the SmackDown tag team division's best asset.Breezangois a team that could catch fire with the proper spotlight. American Alpha continues to grow and improve. After reinventing themselves as heels, The Usos have risen to new heights and, with the right stories and foes, could continue to blossom. The New Day's off-the-wall act will soon get fresh energy when moved to a new stage. As Tim Fiorvanti of ESPN.com pointed out, the blue brand really needed that trio aboard:The New Day can be the centerpiece of the SmackDown tag division. The gyrating former champs make intriguing foils for the brand's heels. The writing staff now has an appealing element to plug into the mix. What's Missing'Depth still plagues SmackDown's tag team scene. That was an issue before the Superstar Shake-up and bringing in The Shining Stars does little more than fill the gap The Vaudevillains' exit left behind. That's not saying much. The Ascension, Breezangoand The Shining Stars are all bottom-rung teams at the moment. The brand has done a poor job developing those first two squads, and Raw struggled to find ways to give Primo and Epico any momentum.Chris Walder of The Score and Bleacher Report offered a potential solution:A Luke Harper-Erick Rowan reunion is a tremendous idea. It's not as if Rowan is going to do much on his own. They can return to their smashmouth ways, offering the division's babyfaces a hell of a test.Bringing in TommasoCiampaand Johnny Gargano of #DIYfrom NXT would truly give SmackDown a quality tag division. Their presence would up the quality of matches for the brand in a big way. With or without #DIY, SmackDown's tag team champs need more credible challengers. The brand has to build up Breezango, letting the duo run with its flashy, goofy act. Or else, it must reshape the perception of The Shining Stars or The Ascension.Raw, meanwhile, has a face-heel imbalance issue. The Club and The Revival are the only villains in the division right now.Cesaro and Sheamus are working as tweeners at the moment. That makes it difficult for the fan-favorite squad to climb their way up the ladder. It promises to lessen the excitement of the Hardys' reign. And it will have Raw run into the same problem it had ahead of the Superstar Shake-uprepetition.We saw the same matches week in and week out on Monday nights. It got old fast.Which Brand Won Out'Raw has the superior tag team division for now.The red brand boastsmore teams, better depth and more star power. It has the advantage of an all-time great pair in the Hardys at its center. The Golden Truth is the only non-factor team around. Slater and Rhyno are likely going to be filler, but only a few months ago, they were a key part of SmackDown. Raw could revisit the story of Slater looking to provide for his family. It was mighty entertaining the first time around. On the SmackDown side, there are more question marks surrounding the division.Breezango could just as easily be bottom-feeding nobodies as it could be the hottest surprise act of the summer. Whether or not the brand adds another squad or not will make a huge difference, too.SmackDown, the land of opportunity that it is, could surpass Raw if things fall the right way.American Alpha is a team on the rise. The New Day should flourish in a new home with new challenges. And the blue brand has found a way to build around the most unexpected talent, from Slater to James Ellsworth. The brand war is far from over, even if Raw came away with a decisive victory in the post-WrestleMania period.
