Arsenal Transfer News: Fresh Alexis Sanchez Rumours, Mesut Ozil Latest

Published by Bleacher Report on Mon, 17 Apr 2017

Arsenal have reportedly rejected a55 million bid from Manchester City for forward Alexis Sanchez.PerTransferMarketWeb(h/t theExpress' Uche Amako), City remain in contact with Sanchez's representatives and have not given up hope of signing the Chilean despite the Gunners rejecting their approach, while Manchester United, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are keeping tabs on him.Sanchez, 28, is about to enter the final year of his current deal at the Emirates Stadium, but Arsenal do not want to see him depart, especially not to a direct Premier League rival, per Amako.James Olley in theEvening Standard recently reported Arsenal went big in an attempt to "break the contract stalemate with [Sanchez]" by offering him terms worth 300,000 per week. The former Barcelona winger has looked increasingly unhappy at Arsenal, though, in recent weeks as the Gunners have lost five of their last eight Premier League games and dropped out of the top four. The north London side's chances of qualifying for next season's UEFA Champions League are looking ever slimmer, while the likes of City, PSG and Chelsea are more than likely to make Europe's top-tier competition.Sanchez has been a huge asset for Arsenal since they bought him from Barca in 2014.Per WhoScored.com, he is one of the most effective attacking players in the Premier League, so it is little surprise the Gunners are not willing to let him go:However, Sanchez's contract situation remains unresolved, and if he wants out of the Emirates in the summer, Arsenal may well lose one of their key players.Meanwhile, Mesut Ozil, another of Arsenal's top players who is nearing the final year of his contract, has revealed that he previously received a100 million offer to move to the Chinese Super League. The 28-year-old German playmaker outlined in a serialisation of his new book,Gunning for Greatness: My Life, that it took him very little time to turn down the offer despite the huge money available, via theMail on Sunday:When I got an offer from China last summer, however, I didn't need his advice because the offer was too absurd. The Chinese were prepared to pay me 100 million net over a period of five years. A fairy tale amount of money that went beyond the limits of my imagination. In spite of this it took me less than three minutes to decline the offer. My agent, Erkut, called me to let me know about the bid. He said: 'I think we're agreed what we're going to do, aren't we' You won't consider it, will you'''I'm nowhere near the end of my career,' I replied. 'I still want to win titles with Arsenal. I don't want to play in China no matter how much they're willing to pay. No way.'The revelation is likely to calm Gunners fans nervous about Ozil, as well as Sanchez, leaving Arsenal in the summer.Per Richard Innes in theMirror, rumours continue to circulate about Ozil's potential departure as he has yet to sign a new contract. But the former Real Madrid man has proved that he is committed to Arsenal enough to turn down 100 million, a potential boost for the club as they attempt to persuade him to stay on.
