College Football Championship 2018: Latest Twitter Hype for Alabama vs. Georgia

Published by Bleacher Report on Tue, 09 Jan 2018

The second SEC national champion of the College Football Playoff era will be named on Monday night inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide and No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs will face off in their first meeting since October 3, 2015 with the Tide looking to extend their dynasty and the Bulldogs vying to end a title drought of 38 years. Mercedes-Benz Stadium's official Twitter account set the scene for Monday's game with a glimpse inside the new venue.Alabama head coach Nick Saban is going for his sixth national title on Monday. The last four have come at Alabama, while the first was earned at LSU.Saban will be going up against his former defensive coordinator Kirby Smart, who has transformed Georgia's program back into a national contender in his second year as head coach. The legendary Alabama coach is 11-0 against former assistants, and he's won all those games by at least 14 points, as ESPN Stats and Info noted.Although facing Alabama is a daunting task, Smart has confidence in his team and even went as far to say the Crimson Tide aren't as unbeatable as they have been, per AL.com's Joseph Goodman. The biggest concern for the Georgia head coach is the play on the interior. He admitted during Sunday's press conference that he's worried about the offensive and defensive lines of the Crimson Tide, while Saban was most concerned with his team's execution, per Christopher Walsh of SEC Country.Since the game is in its home state, it makes sense that Georgia will have a heavy crowd presence inside the home of the Atlanta Falcons. CBS Sports' Barrett Sallee noted the atmosphere around the stadium early on Monday.Georgia will also have a fan rooting from afar in former head coach Mark Richt, who is now in charge of Miami (FL). Richt wished the Bulldogs good luck in a tweet on Monday morning. There's also a plethora of former Georgia players in the NFL, and they are all showing their support for the Bulldogs on Twitter, Los Angeles Rams teammates running back Todd Gurley and linebacker Alec Ogletree were in Bulldogs gear at the Rams facility on Monday, per the team's official Twitter account.Alabama boasts quite the collection of NFL players itself, and there will plenty on the sidelines in Atlanta on Monday night. ESPN's Marty Smith provided us with a look at the notable names cheering on the Crimson Tide in person. As for the players participating in Monday's contest, a few experts are tipping Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts to be the star of the game, including former USC quarterback and Fox Sports analyst Matt Leinart.Georgia's quarterback Jake Fromm could make a bigger impact than Hurts if he thrives in certain situations. ESPN's Chris Fallica gave us a look at how Fromm could change the game with his play on first down.Prediction:Alabama 21, Georgia 17Alabama has the experience of closing out the big game, and they'll find a way to take the lead in the fourth quarter and never surrender.Georgia will pose a challenge to the Crimson Tide's dynasty, but it will have to wait to win its first national title since 1980.Follow Joe on Twitter, @JTansey90.
