Agent Donato Di Campli Says Neymar, PSG Stars Locked in 'Golden Prison

Published by Bleacher Report on Fri, 19 Jan 2018

Football agent Donato Di Campli has cast doubt over whether Neymar or any of Paris Saint-Germain's biggest stars will be allowed to leave the club after describing it as a "golden prison."Di Campli represented PSG midfielder Marco Verratti until last July and told Italian newspaperTuttosporthe doesn't know if Neymarrecently linked with a move to Real Madridwill ever be permitted to leave (h/tMarca):"Nobody will get [Neymar] out of there. That team has more potential than any other and the players are locked in a golden prison that they don't want to give up."Their contracts are impossible at other clubs. The French league is a championship of lies, there is only one club, and [the players] remain at PSG despite the reality."PSG were taken over by Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) in 2011 and have steadily established the Parc des Princes as one of the most alluring football destinations in the world.Backed by their Qatari owners, PSG were permitted to more than double the world transfer record and complete a 200 million move for Neymar this past summer, although football writer David Amoyal agreed an exit for the Brazilian will be difficult to navigate:Di Campli went on further to illustrate the frustrations he endured going up against PSG in attempting to sanction a transfer for his then-client, Italy international Verratti:"With [Verratti] and PSG I have lived the ugliest experiences of my life. Zero gratitude - for me Verratti does not exist. I not only fought against a club but against a state."The Independent's Evan Bartlett told how a proposed move to Barcelona didn't materialise, leading Di Campli to say his client was being held "prisoner" in Paris before. Verratti was forced to apologise by the club and left Di Campli for another agent, Mino Raiola. His most recent comments come following speculation Neymar is wanted by Real, although PSG lawyer Marcos Motta has confirmed "there is no clause" in the forward's contract, as there was in his Barcelona deal, perMarca. For all intents and purposes, things are going as well for Neymar on the pitch as he could hope, having recently put four past Dijon, via Goal:ButMarca wrote Neymar has "struggled to settle" in Paris, leading to inevitable questions over a potential departure, although PSG will undoubtedly look to convince their maestro the Parc des Princes is the place for him.It was always suggested Neymar left Barcelona to escape the shadows of peers like Lionel Messi, but ESPN FC's Jonathan Johnson touched upon his chase for individual fame perhaps going too far in the other direction:There are doubts as to whether PSG have the ability to challenge for top titles like the UEFA Champions League crown, but the problem for anyone looking to leave is there are fewif anywho could bully the French club into a sale.Di Campli's words suggest there's a possibility Neymar may be forced to accept his situation and observe the length of his contract as the club intended rather than make any sort of swift exit.
