Switzerland continued their preparations for the upcoming FIFA World Cup with a 2-0 victory over Peru on Tuesday evening in a pre-World Cup friendly at the Swissporarena in Lucerne, Switzerland.The home side was frustrated until Stephan Lichtsteiner scored the opener in the 78th minute, heading in from Ricardo Rodriguez's cross. Xherdan Shaqiri then sealed the win with Switzerland's second in the 84th minute with a rare right-footed strike.But although the result was good, the performance from the Swiss failed to convince. Peru had the best chance to score in the first half, via Paolo Hurtado, whose shot was saved by Diego Benaglio. In addition, this was thesecond time in as many matches that Switzerlandwho earned a seed for the upcoming World Cupneeded a late winner to beat an opponent that did not qualify.The Swiss will hope their attack is at its best when they begin play as the seeded team in Group E. Their campaign begins against Ecuador on June 15 before a showdown with France on June 20. The group finale against Honduras follows on June 25.Tuesday's friendly was the second and final preparation match for Switzerland ahead of the World Cup.
