Group lauds Oshiomhole's decision on task force on environment

Published by Tribune on Wed, 28 Sep 2011

Edo State governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has been commended for his bold step in stopping the illegal activities of the former Chairman of the state Task Force on Environment, Major Lawrence Loye (Retd) who was allegedly demolishing houses in Benin City with reckless abandon before he was sacked by the governor.A statement by the Chairman of the Coalition for Good Governance and Economic Justice in Africa, Mr Adesunloye Arowolo, and made available to reporters in Lagos said, 'if we have leaders who take decisions to protect the interest of the masses and arrest anybody linked with corruption like Governor Oshiomhole did in Edo, I think we would by now, be on safer path of a corrupt free society.''Besides, Arowolo identified the lack lustre and undecided leadership in Nigeria over the years as one of the banes of corruption, adding that it has hampered the country''s development significantly.According to him, 'pampering corruption in Nigeria and indecisive decisions by the political leadership in the country cannot take her anywhere if we must confront the issues of good governance in this country.'Judgment will surely begin from the House of God; I think that is the point Oshiomhole was sending out that nobody was above the law, no matter his/her position in the government.''He noted that ''Loye allegedly acted arbitrarily and outside his authority in the course of doing his job. In other words, he abused his powers,'' adding that ''for Oshiomhole to order Loye's arrest was to send the right signal that nobody was above the law.
