Abesan Cup Begins In Four Centres

ORGANISERS of the Abesan football competition have announced an increase in its prize money for the 2011 edition, which starts this weekend.The initiator of the project, Clementina Doregos, who was represented by Tokunbo Doregos, said at an event in Lagos that the step was taken to improve the quality of the competition and encourage the participating teams.She said: 'I congratulate last year's winner, MSI, and urge the other teams taking part in the competition to shun violence.'In a game of football, there must be a winner, so every team must be ready to accept the result of a match. For this edition, the winner will receive N100, 000 while the second position will go home with N75, 000. The team that comes third will win N50, 000 while the fourth will get N25, 000.'Meanwhile, the Managing Director of Eskimo Oil, Segun Akinyele, donated N200, 000 during the trophy presentation and award of balls to teams that registered early. Master Sports also supported the project with a donation of 10 balls and two sets of jerseys meant for the finalists.The owner of Ceejay Sports, Cajetan Ekejuba, also donated jerseys and boots as reward for highest goal scorer and most valuable player. A total of 32 teams have registered for the competition and are drawn in four groups to play in four venues around Lagos State and Ogun State.
