EPL Fixtures: Week 4 Odds, Game Lines and Predictions

Published by Bleacher Report on Tue, 09 Sep 2014

The 2014-15 Premier League season will resume following the international break, with another full slate of action greeting the fans. The clash at the top of the standings between Chelsea and Swansea City will undoubtedly steal the highlights in what should be another great week of football.Several key players are expected to return from the international break with minor (or perhaps even major injuries), which will have a big impact on how Week 4 will play out.Let's have a look at the schedule for Week 4, complete with odds and game lines, courtesy of Oddsshark:Manchester United Will Find Their Winning WaysFans of rival teams have had their fun mocking the Red Devils' inability to beat teams they should be steamrolling on paper, but at the conclusion of Week 4, the joke will be over.Queens Park Rangers have a solid team (they're currently ranked above United, after all), but Harry Redknapp has built a squad that will earn the bulk of its points by relying on individual quality against teams with similar talent.Leroy Fer has looked very solid so far during the 2014-15 season, and there's a reason Joey Barton currently leads the league in chances created, per Squawka:QPR are good, but their approach won't work against a squad like United. The Red Devils are hungry for a result, and with new signings Radamel Falcao, Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo all expected to make their debut, they should simply have too much talent on the pitch not to win.The new era in United's history was supposed to start weeks ago, but Louis van Gaal and Company were late taking care of all their transfer business. Sunday, September 14 is now the target date, and while fans shouldn't expect a monster performance, the Red Devils will do enough to come away with three points.International Break Will Hurt Swansea More Than ChelseaYes, Chelsea have more internationals away on duty, which means they're more likely to be struck by the injury bug. Diego Costa already withdrew from the Spain squad with some injury concerns, although the Blues have yet to rule him out for the match against Swansea, per the Daily Mail's David Kent. But as coach Alan Curtis told the Swans' website (h/t to Goal), the Welsh outfit aren't too far behind, with 11 players currently away on international duty:It just shows how much the club has come on in terms of calibre of players. Even when I was playing, we would get the odd player in the senior national team and a couple for a Wales Under-23s game but it wouldn't make a dent in the squad. Now we have 11 players away on international duty playing in all parts of the world and, when you think Jefferson [Montero] pulled out of the Ecuador squad while Bafe [Gomis] was on standby for France, we could have had more international involvement. It's great for Swansea City to have this level of involvement and it's also deserved recognition for the players. We hope everyone plays and, of course, returns home free from injury.Chelsea's squad is broader, giving Jose Mourinho more room to deal with an untimely injury. But this early in the season, few managers will be worried about something like that happening.Far more important is the actual break in Premier League fixtures. For a club like Swansea, who are performing well above expectations, momentum is arguably their biggest weapon. Swans have been excellent so farthey want to keep that streak going. They'll have to regain that momentum once the players return from the international duty, and that is often easier said than done. The Welsh club will still present Chelsea with a tremendous challenge, but the break in action certainly favours the Blues.Don't Sleep on SunderlandTottenham Hotspur are the odds-on favourites to beat Sunderland on Sunday, and rightfully so. But at the risk of sounding like a clichea trip to the Stadium of Light is never easy.Punters should give this fixture a close lookas mentioned previously, the international break has a tendency to complicate matters. Spurs have looked excellent so far in the 2014-15 campaign, but there's no guarantee that momentum will continue. At -111, they're hardly a tantalising prospect for punters. On the other hand, a shock win for the hosts could offer a great return, at +250. Even a draw would do the trick, currently at +240.The arrival of Ricky Alvarez should boost the Black Cats, and he'll only provide Connor Wickham with more opportunities in front of goal. Sunderland remain underdogs against Spurs, but at those odds, punters might have to rethink their strategy for Week 4.Follow @ReverschPassRead more World Football news on BleacherReport.com
