TOWARDS getting the young generation to imbibe the Olympic values, the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) will today commence a four-day workshop in Lagos for over 50 students from 20 schools drawn from across the state.The exercise tagged Olympic Value Education Programme (OVERP), will hold at Greensprings School in Lekki with the participants drawn from public schools from the six educational districts of Lagos.According to the co-ordinator of the project, Kemi Obidahunsi, the event will help the students to imbibe the Olympic spirit, and having hosted the train-the -trainers course earlier in the year, Greensprings is supporting the programme to ensure that the students have a conducive environment for the training.'Our world today is in need of peace, tolerance and brotherliness; Nigeria as a country needs peace too, which we believe that Olympic values can deliver to it,' Obidahunsi said.'NOC, with the support of Greensprings School, is encouraging and promoting Olympic values and we intend to introduce the values of respect for self and others, fairplay, joy of effort, excellence, friendship and balance between body and mind to young people all over Nigeria.'This is because Nigeria of tomorrow is in the hands of the young people of today. So we are starting with Lagos as 20 schools from the six education districts will be participating and we are expecting 50 students. The programme is scheduled to take place from Monday (tomorrow) to Thursday at Greensprings, Lekki.'Six resource persons will be in attendance with the objective of exposing the pupils to Olympic values and leadership skills. According to Obidahunsi, 'at the end, they (students) will be able to establish Olympic clubs in their various schools thereby spreading these values to their friends and school mates, which will be monitored by NOC under the culture and education commission.
