Kenu village gets new head, 6 years after

A new village headfor Kenu community in Okuta District of Baruten Local Government Area, Kwara State, has been appointed and installed.The new village head, Alhaji Idris Kenken, was appointed by the Emir of Okuta, Alhaji Idris Abubakar Kperogi Afon III, after an intense scheming by the people who showed interest in the throne.Community News gathered that the appointment came six years after the demise of the erstwhile village head, Mallam Komi Lafia.The turbaning ceremony was performed at the Emir's Palace recently amidst pomp and pageantry.Addressing the crowd that graced the occasion, the emir called on all parties involved in the selection process to forget their differences and support the newly installed village head in order to entrench peace which he said had eluded the community for a long time.He admonished other competitors for the throne to accept the verdict as an act of God, noting that they were all qualified and competent enough to run the affairs of the community irrespective of their age or socio-economic status.The emir also said that the choice of Allah had prevailed, adding that everyone should cooperate for peace and development of Kenu community.Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of Baruten Local Government, Alhaji Aliyu Kora Lafia Sabi, who was represented by the Vice Chairman, Alhaji Umaru Ahmed, thanked the present administration in the state led by Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed and the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, for the fatherly role played in handling the delicate chieftaincy issue of Kenu community.He particularly appreciated the patience of the entire peace- loving people of Kenu community without which he noted the peaceful resolution of the chieftaincy matter would not have been realized.He also commended the efforts of the Baruten Traditional Council and the state Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development towards an amicable resolution of the chieftaincy tussle in his domain.Present at the ceremony were members of Okuta Council of Traditional Rulers, Village Heads of Boriya, Shiya and Taberu, the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies.
