IRIS Smart Technologies 2010/2011 Club Cricket Committee (CCC) League Champions, BRFCC, over the weekend sent a warning signal to its opponents when it recorded an impressive 57 runs victory over a selected side, the President's X1, in the ceremonial opening game of the 2011/2012 Lagos cricket season. The game played at the Tafawa Balewa Cricket Oval, Onikan, showed hat the Sean Phillips led side is not ready to relinquish its stranglehold on Nigerian cricket, with the players behaving as if victory is all that matters in life. And they were beautiful in achieving the latest victory on Saturday.Coach/Player, Sean Phillips, who has become the corner stone of both the club and the national team in recent years, claimed five wickets for 10 runs; Spinner Varun Behani complemented him by claiming two wickets for five runs in 2.3 overs as BRFCC reduced the President's XI to a meagre 84 runs in 28.3 overs. After winning the toss, the Ibeju Lekki-based team elected to bat first, posting 141 run in 34 overs with Phillips scoring 36 runs, Bejide Jide (27 runs), Endurance Ofem (19 runs) and James Chukwu (13 runs).Despite efforts by the President's X1 bowlers to dislodge their opponents, only Femi Oduyebo and Oluwaseun Odeku could record two wickets each.Facing a 141-run deficit from the first innings, the President's X1 found it difficult to reach their target as the trio of Emmanuel Okwudili, who was the best batsman for his side with 31 runs, Balogun Taiwo (13 runs) and Oluwaseun Odeku (12 runs) found it uncomfortable to cope with the bowling onslaught of BRFCC led by Phillips and Behani, who reduced them to 16 runs short of a century.Having won the season opener BRFCC against star studded President's X1, the CCC League defending champions sure looks like the side to beat this season.Last season, the team won both the Iris Smart Technology Club Cricket Committee League and GTAssur T20 competition unbeaten, even in the face of the tough challenge by Federal Government College Warri Old Boys Cricket Club, and former champions, Government College Ibadan Old Boys Cricket Club.
