Okoh Moves To Reposition Knighthood

Published by Guardian on Sun, 06 Nov 2011

IT was a beehive of activities at the Ibru International Ecumenical Centre, Agbarha-Otor, Delta State, on October 18-19 as the Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh, held a joint meeting with Archbishops, Bishops, Presidents and Secretaries of the Diocesan Council of Knights from Provinces East of the Niger and Bendel Ecclesiastical Province. The purpose of the meeting was to fine-tune the institution of the knighthood and make it more honourable and respectful.Issues discussed included qualities of persons to be invested as knights; mode of dressing; when to appear in regalia; number of persons to be invested at a time and what order to be invested into. The catchment diocese, from which persons to be invested should be, also formed part of the agenda. In a sermon during the opening Holy Communion service in St. Peter's Chapel at the centre, Rector of the facility, Ven. Ernest Onuoha, called on the knights to use their office to assist the church to achieve its goals through contributions, both materially and spiritually. Also, in a brief remark after the service, Primate Okoh called on the Knights to observe the doctrines of the church. The Knights commended the Primate for his concern for the knighthood and for initiating the forum, which was the first of its kind.According to them, a lot of issues, which had troubled their hearts, were resolved at the historic meeting.Meanwhile, the Kings' Daughters held their conference at the Centre on October 20-22. The conference is an annual retreat of the Love and Peace World Outreach ' an interdenominational evangelistic organisation, dedicated to raising an army unto the Lord. This year's conference with the theme 'I will put my spirit in you' (Ezek. 37:14) aimed at God's empowerment for women to meet needs and challenges of present time. The retreat featured, among others, praises, prayer sessions, all night prayers, ministration of the word of God, and a workshop on: 'Hearing and understanding the voice of God'.Other topics were the 'Holy Spirit' by Dame Dr. Margaret Ugboma, President and Founder of the outreach and 'Praying Woman' (I Sam. 2) by Pastor Fred Ugheni.Mrs. Margaret noted that the Holy Spirit is the enforcer of God's will on earth and Christians need this power to break away from ignorance, which has blindfolded many from taking their rightful.
