Live in peace, PDP charges MuslimsThe Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)has saluted Muslims in the country as they celebrated the feast of Eid-el-Kabir with a call on them to live in peace and love one another.The party also wanted them to give support to the ongoing transformation effort of the Federal Government.A release issued by the national publicity secretary of the party, Professor Rufai Ahmed Alkali, in Abuja, on Sunday, quoted the acting national chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, of charging Muslims to reflect on the lessons of the sacrifice and total submission to the will of Allah, which the occasion signified.According to the statement, 'Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, on behalf of the National Working Committee (NWC) and members of the party, joins Muslims in Nigeria and the world over in celebrating Eid-el-Kabir.'While we mark this great feast of Islam, may we deeply reflect on the lessons of sacrifice and total submission to Almighty Allah, which Eid-el-Kabir signifies.'May these lessons imbue in us, greater patriotism so that we continue to love one another and give more support to the ongoing transformation efforts of the leadership of our dear nation.'Minna traditional rulers sue for peaceThe Etsu Nupe,Alhaji YahayaAbubakar, has said only social justice and fairness can ensure peace and unity among the diverse groups in Nigeria and, therefore, urged leaders at all levels to always promote social justice in all their deeds.In a related development, the Emir of Kontagora, Alhaji Saidu Namaska, has enjoined politicians to stop using youths as political thugs, while the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Umar Farouk Bahago, called for continuous voter registration, to enable youths that had turned 18 to exercise their franchise, by registering as voters in the future general election in the country.The traditional rulers, who spoke in separate sallah messages, to their subjects after the Eid-el-Kabir prayers in their respective communities, emphasised the need for peaceful co-existence among diverse ethnic nationalities in the country.Etsu Nupe, who is also the chairman of the traditional rulers in Niger State, said 'our people always rejoice to see justice done without fear or favour, hence the manifest resultant effectsof social justice is usually peace and harmony.'The Emir of Kontagora, in his message to the people, called on youths in the area to shun violence and warned politicians against using youths to achieve their selfish political gains.Also in his message, the Emir of Minna called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that there was provision for continuous voter registration and called on his people to be security conscious, by reporting suspicious movements to security agents.Bayero challenges FG on securityAs the state of thenation's securitycontinues to generate concern, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, has challenged the Federal Government to evolve measures that will address the disturbing situation.This was contained in his sallah message, where he urged Nigerians to pray and fast for peace to prevail in the country.'I would like to use this opportunity to urge the Federal Government to intensify efforts in all aspects of human endeavour, especially as it relates to the issue of security of lives and property. We need security for the well-being of our nation,' he said.Alhaji Bayero appealed to Nigerians to continue to live in peace and harmony with one another and pray for the sustenance of peace in the entire country.'I appeal to all Nigerians to cooperate with one another and be their brothers' keepers, because it is only when they work together that there can be peaceful and harmonious co-existence in the country,' he added.He called on governments at all levels to promote national unity and cohesion, just as he also tasked the Federal Government to improve on electricity supply, so as to revive ailing industries in Kano and the country in general.Imbibe lessons of sacrifice, Adedoja chargesFORMER Minister ofSports, ProfessorTaoheed Adedoja, has urged Muslims in the country to imbibe the lessons of sacrifice, as symbolised by the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.Adedoja, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made this known in a release made available on Saturday to felicitate with Muslim faithful.He noted that Islam, as a religion of peace, preached against violence and criminal tendencies.'The message for humanity in this season is that we must be faithful to God and to our nation.'Sacrifice implies that we must be our brothers and sisters' keepers and ensuring that peace and harmony is sustained in every area of life we find ourselves,' he said.Professor Adedoja also urged Muslims in particular to use the opportunity of the season to rededicate themselves to the cause of Allah.Alao-Akala felicitates with MuslimsTHE immediate pastgovernor of OyoState, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, has felicitated with Muslim faithful in the state and across the country on this year's Eid-el-Kabir.Chief Alao-Akala, who said this in a press statement issued and signed by his media assistant, Mr Abraham Ojo, a copy of which was made available to the Nigerian Tribune, on Sunday, urged the Muslims in the state and other parts of the country to imbibe the spirit of unity and tolerance, while seeking for the continued survival of the country as a nation.While congratulating the Muslim faithful for witnessing yet another celebration, he urged the people of the state and Nigerians to use the period for sober reflection on how the present crop of leaders could bestow on younger generation a lasting legacy that would stand the test of time.He, therefore, advised the people to continue to pray fervently for government at all levels, so that the President Goodluck Jonathan-led administration would be able to transform the country to an enviable standard.'It is only in the atmosphere of peace, unity and harmony that development and other positive changes could take place,' he said.Continue to pray for Nigeria, Adeseun chargesThe senator representing Oyo Centralsenatorial district, Senator Hamzat Ayoade Adeseun, has enjoined Nigerians to continue to pray for the nation.In his goodwill message to mark the celebration of Eid-el-Kabir, the senator urged Nigerians, both Muslims and Christians, to continuously pray for the peace, progress and unity of the Nigerian nation.He also noted that 'all the citizens of Nigeria must learn to appreciate one another, regardless of the shades of religion or tribe. We must all be God-fearing and watchful for the safety and welfare of our neighbours by being our brother's keeper.'Senator Adeseun, who is the chairman, Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and other Financial Institutions, called on everyone to utilise this festive season and holiday period as a time to seek the face of God for the progress of Nigeria.He also advised against reckless driving during the holiday, while enjoining all road users to desist from over-speeding and drunk driving, so as not to spoil the festive mood of the nation.
