Gov advised to create more local councils

Published by Tribune on Mon, 07 Nov 2011

The Ogun state governor, SenatorIbikunle Amosun, has been advised to create local development councils in the state to ensure that development touches every nooks and crannies of the state. This advice was given by a community leader in Alagbado Area of Ogun State, Alhaji Bayo Adepegba while commenting on the state of development in Ogun state. He stated that it would be extremely difficult for government to make any meaningful impact in the lives of the people of Ogun State, if the present structure was allowed to remain. He stated that the size of some local councils like Ifo, Ado-Odo Ota, Yewa South were too big for dividends of democracy to go round. 'Look, Ifo local council is so big that government cannot do much for the people. For any meaningful achievements to be made, we appeal to the state government to create local development councils like it is being done in Lagos State'.Alhaji Adepegba lamented that the last time the area got anything from the state government was in 2002 during the tenure of Governor Olusegun Osoba when he commissioned a major road that linked the state with Lagos State. He explained that the area, because of its closeness to Lagos was facing serious population explosion and that there was acute shortage of social infrastructure to back up the explosion."For government to touch the people of the state, the present local government structure must be reviewed, hence the need for creation of local development councils,'' he stressed.
