In my last article, I talked about the showdown of social networking. However, although they may be fighting against each other for the ultimate cyber crown, when you put things into perspective, what do Facebook, Twitter and even Google+ all have in common' One word for you: intrusiveness.Yes. Someone somewhere clocked unto the fact that as humans, we are incredibly nosey and ever since then, media moguls have used it as their greatest tool to maintain our attention. Let's face it; every one loves a good spy. If you are not deciding whether your friend has put on weight by examining his recent Facebook pictures, you will be checking if your colleague was actually 'sick' the day that he wasn't at work by going through his tweets. One medium that has made this obsession slightly easier for us mortals to feed off is the blog. This is because it provides a way for people to document a certain aspect of their lives. It is a trend that has been around for a while now but has grown in popularity over the past few years. One of the main reasons for this is because anyone can do it; from your average Joe to your Hollywood celebrity. Even businesses are turning to blogging, using it as a way of updating customers on their products. And why am I telling you all these' Because dear readers, I want you to stay on top of the game. God forbid if my last article turns out to be true and Facebook eventually does go down the drain. Then you would need something else to waste your time on. For this reason alone, I have decided to supply you with a few blogging tips for when you do finally decide to take the plunge.Tip No 1: Choose a themeThe great thing about blogs is that the blogger is in control. Therefore, you can pick anything that tickles your fancy. From gardening tools to your favourite hairstyle; it's up you. I have even come across a blog about dishes the blogger ate every day off a Princess Diana memorabilia plate. This just goes to show how random you can be. However, I must add the point that the kind of topic you choose will determine the kind of people that read your blog. So, it is probably not a good idea to dedicate your site to dead animals on the street for example, if you don't want to attract nutcases.Tip No 2: Choose a NameThat may sound obvious but the name you choose is like the foundation of building your blog. The theme you have decided on will most likely help you to think of one. For example, my blog which is all about life in Moscow, is called Moscow Musings (if you haven't checked it out yet, then what are you waiting for' The link is at the end of this article). Try and make your name memorable and to the point. No one wants to type in 'somethingthatisreallylongandroning.com'. You get my point.Tip No 3: Choose a domainThis is the site that will host your blog. You are spoilt for choice when it comes to this part as there are so many to pick from. One could say that the 'daddy' of all blog sites however, is blogspot.com, simply because it has been around for a very long time. Nevertheless, if you are feeling to be more up-to-date then you can try wordpress.com which works just as well, if not better (I am possibly being slightly biased here). Another newbie on the cyber block which is doing exceptionally well is Tumblr.com. I have found that this site is great if you want to create a blog for things such as pictures or if you want to share blog posts from other readers.Tip No 4: Update RegularlyI'm not going to tell you when and what time you should post blogs but the more frequently you do it, the better. For instance, no one is going to be interested in a site that is only updated two times a year as that really defeats the whole point of the blog. Taking things back to the start of this article, blogging is really just about letting people into your life and the more times you do it, the more we nosey people can feed our addiction by spying on your posts. So, there you have it; a crash course in starting your own blog. Hopefully, after reading this article, you will go away and turn into a dedicated blogging master. Let me stress here however, that despite my desperate attempts to persuade, keeping a blog may not be for everyone. I am aware that some people are just not willing to have their world pried into as if they are a contestant on Big Brother. Nevertheless, for those of you that are brave enough, I say well done. Thank-you for providing internet users everywhere with one more life to spy on!
