5 brothers found dead in a car

Published by Daily Trust on Sat, 12 Nov 2011

The remains of five male children from the same family in Turawa ward of Soba local government area of Kaduna State, who had been missing since Friday, were discovered yesterday inside an abandoned car belonging to a former councillor in the town.Recounting the incident to Daily Trust, an elderly member of the bereaved family, Malam Surajo Abdullahi said the five boys had been missing since Friday, November 4. 'We searched for them everywhere but to no avail. We even gave up when the former councillor, who is also a member of the family, went to use his car that was parked in his uncompleted house. When he opened the car he saw the five corpses. We suspect that the children went inside the uncompleted house and managed to open the car and entered it. When they closed the door of the car, they couldn't open it again. And because there was nobody around, coupled with the fact that the building is still under construction, the boys died of suffocation and extreme heat.'He added, 'None of us suspected that these children would go to that house. Therefore, we didn't search that area. The five boys belong to three members of our extended family.' Malam Abdullahi said. The boys who lost their lives, according to Malam Abdullahi, were Kazullahi, 7, Ubaidullahi, 6, Zaharadeen, 5, Umar, 4 and Kamalludeen, 3.The former councillor, Malam Dayyabu Garba said he was devastated that his car became the cause of the death of the young boys, saying that he takes solace in the fact that nobody can change what Allah has destined. The secretary to the District Head of Turawa, Alhaji Ibrahim Umar confirmed the incident, urging parents to be vigilant on the movement of their wards. The Soba local government police division also confirmed that it was under their supervision that the funeral rites of the five boys took place. The officer who confirmed the incident pleaded for anonymity; saying 'I was not authorised to talk to the press.
