FCT handball tourney starts today

The Federal Capital Territory Handball Association in collaboration with Centre for Children and Youth Excellence in Sports is organising a five-day inter-ministerial handball championship to prepare its team ahead of the Federation of Civil Service Games and National Handball Open Championship in Kano nex month.The weeklong competition, which holds from November 14 to 18, will feature 14 teams in three groups.The championship is being sponsored by Urban Shelters Limited and has Industrial Court, State House, Education, High Court and Ministry of Finance in group A, while group B has National Planning Commission, National Orientation Agency, National Museum and Monument and Ministry of Environment. The last group has Niger Delta Ministry, Civil Service Commission, Ministry of Interior, Office of Secretary of Government of the Federation and Head of Service.The organisers said the competition would hold at the Old Parade ground in Abuja and would be restricted to the staff of the participating establishments.Coach Bala Mohammed said a technical committee had been set up to select the best players that will represent FCT in the national championship.FCT is ahead of other states in handball, and for us to maintain the status quo, we have to organise competitions like this in order to select the best players, Mohammed said on Sunday.
