Despite leading Sunshine Stars to the semi-final of the CAF Confederation Cup and narrowly missing out on the Nigeria Premier League title, Gbenga Ogunbote is still unsure of his future at the Akure club.Ogunbote took over from Solomon Ogbeide at the start of last season and has worked to place the team among the best in the country. His efforts, however, could only produce a CAF Champions League ticket for the team."My one-year contract finished with last season. I dont know what tomorrow will bring but I can only continue if my employers decide to extend my contract," the former Gateway coach told our correspondent on the telephone on Wednesday."I feel sad that we have little to show for our hard work in the just concluded season. The Ondo State Government, the club management and the players sacrificed a lot to ensure we finish with silverware but things didnt go as planned."The positive thing is that weve built a strong team that can only get stronger in the future. By next season, well look at bringing quality players to the squad because well want to start on a winning note."He explained that the team were unlucky to have lost their chance in lifting the trophies that were within their reach. He added that the quality of the top teams could raise the standard of the domestic league if properly organised."The final days of the season proved that the league could be as interesting as the European leagues; we only need to do things right to get the best result," he said. The General Manager of Ondo State Football Agency, Mike Idoko, was however full of praise of Ogunbote, saying the coach did a marvellous job.He said, "I dont see him leaving the club because he did well and impressed the management. Well however work with him in getting quality players, especially defenders, before the new season opens."
