Are you truly alive, or just existing? Pastor Chris Oyakhilome explains the difference between spiritual life and spiritual death.
Pastor Chris Oyakhilome explains how words and faith determine whether you are spiritually alive or spiritually dead.
Pastor Chris Oyakhilome has often taught about the reality of spiritual life and death. Many people go through life without realizing that being physically alive does not mean being spiritually alive. According to biblical principles, a person can be physically healthy yet spiritually dead. But what does this mean? And how can someone ensure they are spiritually alive?
In his teachings, Pastor Chris explains that spiritual death is separation from God, while spiritual life is walking in faith, in alignment with God’s Word.
The Power of Spiritual Laws
In one of his teachings,
Pastor Chris shared a story that highlights the impact of spiritual laws on a person’s life. He recounted the experience of a young man who was a dedicated Christian but tragically passed away before his 40th birthday. Many ministers had prayed for him, yet he did not recover.
According to Pastor Chris, the reason for this was something deeper—something set in motion long before the sickness appeared. Kenneth Hagin, a respected minister, prayed for the young man and received a divine revelation:
Spiritual laws had been set in motion that could not be reversed at that time.
For years, the man had repeatedly said he would never live to be 40. This constant confession shaped his reality. When the time came, his words had already built a spiritual law that could not be undone.
The Power of Words: Life or Death
Pastor Chris Oyakhilome emphasizes that words are not just sounds—they carry power. Just as the young man unknowingly spoke death over himself, people today set spiritual laws in motion through their words and beliefs.
“
The things I may have to encounter in my life are not the same things that you may have to encounter in your life, but the principles are the same.”
This principle applies both negatively and positively. If someone constantly speaks failure, sickness, or defeat, they create conditions in their life that align with those words. But the reverse is also true. If someone declares health, prosperity, and success, those things become their reality.
This is why Pastor Chris encourages believers to make faith-filled confessions. Saying things like
“I will never be poor,” or “
I will live in divine health all my life” establishes spiritual laws that will work in their favor.
Understanding the Fight of Faith
Being spiritually alive means being engaged in what Pastor Chris calls the
good fight of faith. Every believer must fight to stay strong in faith and resist spiritual death.
“
I fought a good fight. Every one of us must fight that good fight of faith.”
This fight is not about physical struggles but about standing firm in God’s Word, rejecting negative influences, and speaking life over every situation. It means believing in God’s promises even when circumstances seem to suggest otherwise.
The Consequences of Spiritual Death
But what happens when someone is spiritually dead? Pastor Chris teaches that spiritual
death is when a person is disconnected from God. This disconnection can happen in different ways:
Lack of Faith: When someone does not believe in God’s power or His promises, they separate themselves from divine blessings.
Speaking Defeat: Constantly confessing failure, sickness, or lack can establish negative spiritual laws.
Ignoring the Word: When a person does not feed their spirit with God’s Word, they weaken spiritually.
Spiritual death does not always happen instantly—it can be a slow decline. A person who once had strong faith may stop praying, stop declaring God’s Word, and begin accepting negative realities. Over time, this can lead to complete disconnection from God.
How to Stay Spiritually Alive
Pastor Chris Oyakhilome teaches that the key to staying spiritually alive is setting the right spiritual laws in motion. Here’s how:
Confess Life Daily: Speak words of faith and victory over yourself. Say things like, “
I will never be sick,”“
I am prosperous,” and “
I live in divine health.”
Stay in God’s Word: The Bible is spiritual food. Reading and meditating on it strengthens your faith and keeps you connected to God.
Surround Yourself with Faith: Being around people who speak faith and positivity helps you stay strong. Avoid environments that promote negativity and doubt.
Pray and Declare: Prayer is not just asking God for things—it’s an opportunity to align your spirit with His will. Declaring God’s Word in prayer reinforces positive spiritual laws.
Reject Negative Thoughts and Words: Never agree with thoughts of defeat, sickness, or failure. Cast them down and replace them with God’s promises.
The Choice Between Life and Death
Pastor Chris often reminds believers that success in life is personal. It does not depend on where someone was born or their background. It depends on the spiritual laws they put into action.
“
Success is personal. What do I mean by that? It’s up to you.”
This principle applies to both spiritual and physical life. A person can have all the advantages in the world but still fail if they set the wrong spiritual laws in motion. Likewise, someone who starts with nothing can rise to great heights if they set the right laws in motion.
The Bible teaches in
Deuteronomy 30:19:
“
I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore, choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.”
This means that people are not victims of circumstances—they have the power to choose. By choosing faith, speaking life, and walking in alignment with God’s Word, they can ensure they remain spiritually alive.
Choose Life Today
Being spiritually dead is not about physical death—it’s about separation from God’s blessings. But the good news is that everyone has the power to change their condition.
As Pastor Chris teaches, the choice is yours. Speak life, reject negativity, and stay connected to God. Set the right spiritual laws in motion, and you will live in divine health, prosperity, and success.
“
I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the Lord.” – Jeremiah 30:17
