Obi, Otti, Umeh, Nwoye, Others Back Moghalu To Become Next LP Gov Of Anambra

Published by Nairaland on Sun, 13 Jul 2025

Obi, Otti, Umeh, Nwoye, others back Moghalu to become next LP Governor of Anambra

The 2023 Presidential Candidate of Labour Party (LP), Mr Peter Obi has thrown his full weight behind the party's governorship candidate, Dr George Moghalu to become the next Governor of Anambra state.

This was echoed at the campaign rally of Labour Party held in commercial city of Onitsha to commence campaigns for George Moghalu's governorship election come November 8, 2025.

The event had in attendance Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, Director-General of Obedient Movement Dr Tanko Yunusa, members of the National Assembly, Senator Victor Umeh (Anambra Central), Senator Tony Nwoye (Anambra North), Prof Lilian Orogbu (Awka North/South), Hon Emeka Iduu (Onitsha North/South), Hon Uchenna Okonkwo (Idemili North/South), Hon Ozodinobi George (Dunukofia/Njikoka/ Anaocha), seven members of the Anambra State House of Assembly, among others, who all endorsed the candidature of George Moghalu.

Addressing the massive crowd of LP faithful, Mr Peter Obi assured them that George Moghalu is prepared to provide good governance to the state with empathy and compassion.

"We urge you to go to your constituencies and convince people. We have one Governor today in Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, you know what he is doing. In contrast, you live in Anambra, so I dont need to tell you whats happening here. You can assess by yourself.

Governance for me is about compassion and empathy, caring for the poor masses and petty traders and ensure that they eat. Its not these same poor masses you collect taxes from.

Ive governed Anambra State, and I dont boast of things I didnt do. I ensured quality education and healthcare. Theyre all verifiable.

You might have heard that the only thing I did was build a brewery. But the same brewery not only gave employment to thousands of people but also the highest taxpayer and the IGR industry in the state. You can now compare it with the fun city you have today, and know which one is more profitable'

While describing the Deputy Governorship candidate, Mrs Ifeoma Okaro, as organised, Obi said, We chose a female deputy governor because we want to care for families. Shes not only popular, but organised.

Obi also clarified reports alleging that he had dumped LP for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), insisting that the coalition remained only in the 2027 general elections.

He said, Let me state categorically, I and all the members, both at the state and national levels, are part of the coalition that has adopted ADC for the 2027 election.

But today, were LP members. Thats why were here for this symbolic flag off the campaign for LP flagbearer, Dr. George Moghalu.

Let me remind you that Im running for President in 2027 and Im serious about it. Everyone has the right to contest, but none of them is better than me. I have the backing of the senators, representatives and others.

Responding, LP Candidate Dr Moghalu promised to use technology to fight touting, criminals, end "aku odo" practice while rekindling decent leadership of former Governor Obi to create jobs, uplift education, quality and affordable healthcare, improve agriculture and deliver quality infrastructure to the state.###
