400 Journalists Accredited For Edo Governorship Poll

No fewer than 400 Journalists have been accredited for Wednesdays governorship election in Edo, the Chairman of the state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NU), Roland Osakue, has said.Osakue, who made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) on Tuesday in Benin, however, said these are only practising Nigerian journalists.INEC has accredited at least 400 Nigerian journalists whoapplied through the union.I, therefore,advise all theaccredited journalists for the governorship election to ensure that they carry out their duties professionally in line with the ethics of the profession and in accordance with the provisions of theElectoral Act.I also advise accredited journalists to ensurethatthey wear theirINEC-branded reflective jackets as well as their tags with their picture on it. Moreimportantly, I advise our colleagues to refrain from announcing any resultsof the electionfrom the field as doing so could cause a breach of thepeace. Only INEC is vested with the powers to officially announce election results, the chairmansaid.NAN, however, reports thatmany journalists were still struggling to get accredited at INEC office, Benin,as at the time of filing this report.(NAN)
