2015: Govs, senators fight dirty

Take case to JonathanTHE battle for governorship and Senatorial seats within the People's Democratic Party(PDP) acquired some intensity at the weekend as the clash between some second term Governors and Serving Senators took a different dimension.Sources in the Presidency informed the Sunday Tribune that reports reaching the seat of power in the aftermath of the meeting between President Goodluck Jonathan and Governors elected on the ticket of the Party have not been palatable.It was gathered that rather than seeking to organize all inclusive primaries, the governors are said to be seeking to outwit the Senators on all fronts.President Goodluck Jonathan was said to have admonished the governors at a meeting in Aso Rock last week to put in place structures for the conduct of transparent primaries.But feelers from the states indicate that some of the aggrieved governors seeking to thwart the party's directive to ensure the return of current leadership of the Senate, who are seen to have shown their loyalty to the party.Besides, it was also confirmed that the PDP has admonished serving governors to give Some of the Senators who are said to have shown loyalty to the party in the past but are eyeing governorship seats a level playing field to operate.It was confirmed that series of complaints have flooded the Presidency and the party's National secretariat in ABUJA.it was gathered that the President had just before embarking on his trip to Israel decided to call special meetings of stakeholders in the affected states.The states mostly affected include Enugu, Benue, Abia, Cross Rivers and Delta.The battle in Abia is said to have pictured Governor Theodore Orji against two serving Senators, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe and Nkechi Nwaogu, who are seeking the governorship seat.Governor Orji is said to have indicated interest in the seat of Senator Nwaogu, while complaints of the governors failure to adhere to the rules of free and fair primaries are also rife in Abuja.There are also complaints from top leaders of Cross Rivers state PDP who have accused Governor Liyel Imoke of attempting to stall the planned return of of Senate Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba in 2015.
