Federal Govt rules out third phase of amnesty

The Federal Government yesterday ruled out any possibility of having a third phase for its amnesty programme for Niger Delta militants, as 247 of those who had embraced the amnesty programme of the federal government were sent on vocational programmes in South Africa and MalaysiaReacting to an alleged threat by some ex militants in the Niger Delta who gave the federal government a two week ultimatum to either enlist them in third phase of the amnesty programme or they would paralyze the operations of major oil companies in the region, government yesterday said there would be no third phase.Speaking at the pre -departure ceremony in Lagos for 247 ex- militants that were sent to South Africa and Malaysia for six months vocational training, Special adviser to the president on Niger Delta matters Hon Kingsley Kuku said the government was not bothered by what he described as an empty threat.
