The celebration of this year Ekimogun day slated for Saturday December 3 in Ondo town got a boost following an agreement reached with the Ondo Development Committee (ODC) by Globacom Limited to sponsor the annual event for the next three years beginning from this year 2011.The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding ( MoU) which was done on behalf of the Osemawe of Ondo, Oba Dr. Victor Adesimbo Kiladejo and the Osemawe-in-council by the organiser of the annual event, the ODC took place at the multi-purpose hall within the Osemawe's palace at Enuowa in Ondo town.In a speech delivered on the occasion by Prof. Chief Adeyemi Aderoba who represented the Kabiyesi, Oba Victor Adesimbo Kiladejo and the Chairman of ODC, Chief Gbenga Akinnawo, he expressed appreciation to the management of Globacom for approving the decision by the organization to identify with the development of the cultural heritage of the people of Ondo community.Aderoba who is also the Treasurer of the (ODC) noted that the decision by the organisation to identify with the cultural renaissance of the people in different parts of the country as demonstrated through its financial commitments towards the promotion of traditional festivals such as Ofala, Osun and Ojude Oba which are celebrated annually in Onitsha, Osogbo and Ijebu-ode respectively and its resolve to add Ekimogun day to list of benefitting towns has shown that the company is a reputable organisation built solidly on logic, sound management and deep sense of corporate responsibilities.The former Professor of Production Engineering at the Federal University of Technology, Akure lauded the company for blazing the trail as the first mobile telecommunication company to register its presence in the town through the establishment of a customer care centre in the community.He expressed satisfaction with the MoU signed with the ODC adding that the decision by the company to inject N7million as direct package in addition to other indirect expenditures expected to be within a realms of N25million would go a long way towards adding values to the celebration.His words: 'Today we are satisfied that Globacom is coming in to sign memorandum of understanding with us. The package is a lot. The direct package is about N7million. They are going to be all over the place. I guess if they will not spend close to N25million' he stated.In his remark on behalf of the management of Globacom, the Ondo State Manager of the organisation, Mr. Ayodeji Ojuekaiye expressed delight at the signing of the agreement adding that the decision by his company to sponsor the Ekimogun Day for the next three years was aimed at demonstrating its commitment as a Nigerian Company which has interest in promoting culture, festivals and traditions that binds the people of the community together as one indivisible entity.
