Devices that help you sleep well, wake early

Published by Punch on Thu, 24 Nov 2011

GBENGA ADENIJI writes on devices that can aid sleep.A good rest is desirable after a hectic day. Medically, it is considered a problem if an individual is unable to get enough sleep or suffers from insomnia. However, for those who not only desire sound sleep but also crave to rise up better, there are a number of sleep-related gadgets they can explore. The Chillow Comfort Pillow is a vital sleeping tool for those who often find their pillows uncomfortable. The Chillow is said to be a pillow insert that slips inside ones pillow case and keeps the top of the pillow cold, while still conformable, using soft thermal gel and memory foam. Those who get too hot in bed can find relief in the Bed Fan. As its name suggests, it is a gadget which sits at the foot of the bed and blows cool air up and maintains coolness at night while one sleeps. The Pzizz Sleep Software is largely for those who find it pretty hard falling asleep. Pzizz produces an iTunes track with soothing sounds and voice that are scientifically-proven to gently rock one to a sound sleep. There is the clocky alarm clock which is said to run away from an individual when it goes offas he or she tries to get up to catch it. Though it may look annoying, it is effective at ensuring one rises early in the morning. Clocky has the capacity of taking up to a three-foot jump off ones bedstand, and will advance around ones room wildly, knocking things over and chirping noisily. Also, SleepTracker is a device that monitors ones sleep cycle through accelerometers inserted in a watch as one goes to sleep. One can set a gap of time when one intends to wake up and also decide, based on the sleep pattern, about the appropriate time to rise up.Since it is noted that one may wake up feeling confused, the SleepTracker will monitor the sleep patterns and, if possible, wake the individual up during light period to ensure that the person is refreshed. One can also plug the watch into the computer and download sleep data into the Sleeptracker software, which is a good way of keeping track of ones sleep pattern over time. The device can even be set to vibrate before it rings. Hence, the issue of being woken up every morning by a chirping clock is ruled out as one is nudged awake by a soft vibration. For those who are not willing to spend money to purchase the special SleepTracker watch, there is an option of a Sleep Cycle iPhone App. Users of iPhones can get the App through itunes which duplicate the features of the SleepTracker. It shows ones sleep graphs on the device. While the iPhone is placed on the corner of the mattress and spots vibrations through its accelerometer, the SleepTracker is fastened on the wrist and permits the wearer to monitor his or her sleep patterns.Another sleep-related device is the AXBO Sleep Phase Alarm Clock, which is similar to the SleepTracker and Sleep Cycle app, but with some interesting features. It is primarily an alarm clock which communicates with fabric wristbands worn by the user. The wristband is stuffed with a vibrating mechanism and an accelerometer, and relays the wearers sleep information to the alarm clock. The AXBO has the capacity to wake the wearer up within 30 minutes. Its alarm is set via the vibrating wristbands. Interestingly, the two wristbands, and the clock are believed to support two users at a time and wake both of them up separately, as each prefers. The Light Timer comes handy in turning on lights several minutes before one wakes up. It softly nudges the individual into consciousness. Close to the Light Timer is the Philips Wake-Up Light. Since light and sound stimuli can cause people to wake up, the device which is imbued with iPod Dock is designed to put both in check for easy relaxation. An online source says to use the device, one has to plug in ones ipod into the dock and set the alarm before going to sleep. It adds, As your alarm time approaches, the light begins to glow brighter and brighter, and a minute before your alarm goes off, one of four gentle wake-up sounds, among them forest and bird sounds, will begin to play, increasing in volume over a minute and a half until your alarm goes off.The Zeo Sleep Coach tool is also one of the sleep-related devices which tracks sleep patterns. The manufacturers say it, however, does the tracking in details without waking the individual up. They also say it has a predominantly striking web interface. Most of these devices are not yet available in the local market but can be purchased online as they are readily available in the international sleep gadget market.
