APS lifts trophy at Corona inter school quiz

IN its continuous effort to foster the spirit of perseverance and resilience among pupils through healthy competitions, Corona School Trust Council (CSTC) has organized inter school quiz competition for all the arms of the primary school, in which Apapa School (APS) emerged winner.The keen contest, which featured tasking activities in English language, mathematics, science and general knowledge, saw the contestants brainstorming as a team to arrive at the right answers in each segment.The yearly event, packaged by the council according to the Executive Director of CSTC, Mrs. Olufunto Igun, was geared towards inculcating the spirit of teamwork among the pupils.She said: 'Life itself is about healthy and fair competition. The most important quality the pupils are learning through this, is the act of not quitting in the midst of challenges but continuing to work and develop skills. Competition compels us to do more than we could have done ordinarily, it evokes the best in them, and that is what informed our decision of doing this every year, to further strengthen and deepen corona culture excellence and world class education'.Expressing satisfaction over the pupils' performances, she pointed out that the school curriculum covers the subject areas in which their mental alertness was tested adding that their individual performances at the impromptu speeches portrayed their aptitude and ingenuity.The Educational Administrator, Mrs. Maureen Ihonor, noted that the objective of setting up the yearly competition is being achieved as the pupils now display the spirit of sportsmanship 'to accept defeat when it occurs.' She continued: 'We also intend to expand this competition and invite our adopted schools to be part of it, and gradually compete with us someday'.The secondary school students were not left out as they competed among themselves. Prizes were awarded to the best in each subject as well as the overall best. Victoria Island school took the second position prize; Ikoyi came third; while Lekki and Gbagada tied at the fourth position.
