Kicking off!

Derbies are special. These are the fixtures that are the first to go on the calendars of football fans all over the globe. The ones that fans in different time zones set alarm clocks to get up for. The ones that local fans would sell their precious possessions to get a ticket for. So far in this 2011/12 European season we have witnessed some enthralling derbies such as the ones in Manchester, Rome, Glasgow, London, and now this weekend we have two intriguing clashes on the card. Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid will be squaring it up with cross-city rivals Atletico in what looks like the Match of the Week in Spain. Elsewhere, in the Ruhr Valley, the so-called 'Mother of all derbies' will be played out between Bundesliga champions, Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04.
