The Chief Executive Officer, Digital Jewels, an information value chain consulting firm, Mrs. Adedoyin Odunfa, has said more security management system certification (ISO/IEC 27001:2005) awarded by the British Standard Institute is expected in Nigeria. She said this in a statement on Monday against the backdrop of similar certification recently achieved by Galaxy Backbone Plc and Fidelity Bank Plc.She said her company facilitated the issuance of the prestigious ISO/IEC 27001:2005 certification to the two corporate recipients.Galaxy Backbone, a government-owned agency, is the first public sector organisation in Nigeria and the first Information Communication Technology company in the West African region to have attained the global ISO standard for information security.Digital Jewels other certified client, Fidelity Bank Plc, is currently the second organisation in the Nigerian banking industry to be so certified.Odunfa said, "Galaxy Backbone and Fidelity Bank are the two organisations we have supported to attain certification, while others are in the process. We are committed to emerging as the leading player in the implementation of global best practice standards in Nigeria and beyond. "Without doubt, to reach the goal of certification, it has been a great deal of hard work, sometimes tedious, sometimes tough, often painstaking, but always exciting. I commend the management of the two organisations for their doggedness in implementing and complying with this world-class standard in their operations, and I am pleased Digital Jewels was a key facilitator of this success story."The Managing Director, Galaxy Backbone, Mr. Gerald Ilukwe, said the government agency embarked on the journey to ISO 27001:2005 certification as part of an overarching imperative of implementing processes that would guide its service provision."The ISO/IEC 20071 certification specifies requirements for ISMS (Information Security Management Systems) management. And certification is a recognition of compliance with the stringent requirement of the ISMS standards and regulations for handling all organisational information, be it for the organisation or for its clients, in such a manner as to ensure that it is secure, available when needed and is reliable," he said.Similarly, the Executive Director (Shared Services), Fidelity Bank, Mr. I. K. Mbagwu, explained that the bank was able to attain the certification because it had invested extensively in the training of its workforce, improved on its processes and enjoyed management commitment.Mbagwu, who commended the effort of Digital Jewels in ensuring that the bank attained the feat despite all odds, said, "When you choose a partner for this kind of project, you will pray and hope that they are everything you expected them to be. You expect them to be committed, knowledgeable and to have integrity; to stay the pace and to stay the distance. "And I must say that Digital Jewels did meet all our expectations. Truly speaking, they are a wonderful partner."
