Offa residents warned against violating sanitation laws

Published by Tribune on Thu, 19 Jan 2012

To rid the ancient town of Offa, headquarters of Offa Local Government in Kwara State, of filth and also make it one of the cleanest towns in the country, residents have been urged to always cooperate with the staff of Offa Clean by keeping their surroundings neat and tidy. The Director of Offa Clean, Alhaji Moshood Ibiyeye, who made the call recently observed that the people of Offa had not been participating fully in the monthly environmental sanitation exercise. He, therefore, called on the local government council to enforce the laws of the exercise on the residents so as to ensure strict compliance.Ibiyeye also said that henceforth, his agency would not take it kindly with sanitation offenders. He, however, expressed joy that since March last year, Offa Local Government Area had been carrying out sanitation programmes, adding that since then, all drainages in the town had been kept clean. He said that the agency would organise series of sensitisation programmes for artisans, food sellers, meat sellers, tomato and pepper sellers on the need for them to always keep their environment and goods neat so as to avoid the spread of diseases in the town.Ibiyeye then enjoined residents of the town to always dump their refuse at the designated areas in the town, while they also keep their surroundings clean and neat not just on environmental sanitation days, warning that defaulters would face the full wrath of the law.
