Deconstructing Buhari and his apologists

Published by Tribune on Wed, 13 Apr 2011

Events  in the past few weeks clearly show that Muhammadu Buhari, the CPC presidential candidate, has been taking himself too seriously. Buhari perhaps qualifies to run  for a seat in a potential  Federal Republic of Fanaticism, but his apologists say he is the best material for president. It is either these people are wilfully blind, or they are afflicted with the militarist disease. Before another sentence let me make a point clear: Buhari and his spiritually blind and politically crippled running mate will continue to make noise, while the Jonathan Eagle flies higher.Lets start from Buharis choice of running mate. It is high time someone told Bakare that Nigeria is not a bakery, and that only neophytes can be swayed by his antics. The gospel he preaches is not that of Simon Peter; he is a mere social critic. No one who is genuinely preaching the blood-dripping gospel will join politics, and he should read a book on the life and times of Joseph Ayo Babalola, a preacher of righteousness. That Buhari could choose a political cripple and rabble-rouser as running mate shows clearly that he is living in the stone age. Even Bakares congregation will vote for Jonathan. Like their blind ACN clowns, CPC boys  will load the Tribune website with vile abuse, denouncing the day I was born, but  at least let me advise them to guard against heart attack because of mere monkey politics.Bakare. How can this human being possibly be vice-president Even inimitable Gani, a mass mobiliser, could not deliver his own ward. Buhari treats his own people with contempt: he refuses to listen to them. The result is his tragic choice of a running mate, a political apprentice. Will Muslims vote for Bakare Some people dont think. If you are a pastor, please get busy with the kingdom which is to come. Politics, real politics, is often  about marijuana, cutlasses and mindless violence, just as much as it is about configurations. This is not the time for political lepers and neophytes. Politics is much more than grammar on facebook. By the way, Buharis boys are most entertaining on facebook with their pseudo-Marxism and crippled idealism. Lets try and  imitate them: How can anyone vote for a Jonathan/Sambo ticket based on banditry and political hara-kiri Jonathan is a stooge of a decadent, maniacal and infested godfather who is accentuating the sporadically accelerating  ills of our imperialist capitalist society of neo-colonial bourgeoisie, a political calamity and mentally challenged national ass without the most rudimentary leadership verve! This is the kind of entertainment to which I have been subjected by certain fellows on facebook. I enjoy their comedy because laughter is good for the heart. They choose to live in their childish imagination.Buhari flaunts his so-called integrity as if he is the only honest Nigerian, but he was the same human being who said Abacha didnt steal Nigerian money. Wallahi, this general is not honest fa! As Head of State, our dear general did not even understand a simple concept as the law of demand and supply: he flooded town with Mobile Police kill and go, who shot at traders and hawked their goods at ridiculous prices. I recall a scene at Orita Merin, Ibadan in 1983 when mobile police killers upturned butchers wares, kicking meat into the mud on charges of inflated prices.  The police horse-whipped Nigerians like babies, and soldiers became dreaded gods, visiting the most heinous brutalities on the masses. Has Buhari repented of his crimes against humanity Perhaps, but he recently asked his supporters to kill whoever rigged their votes. In this felonious call, Buhari has an accomplice in Adams  Oshiomhole, the court-installed governor of Edo State who recently declared that he would no longer have any time for the courts and who boasted that he and his gang would kill election riggers. Some people just have to reach a high position in life for their folly to become manifest to all men. Nigerians should vote out these vermin.Anyone who has listened to Buharis campaigns in the North would not doubt the consensus among critical analysts that they sound more like religious revivals than political campaigns. The wild fire of anti-Christian sentiments being peddled in the North-West again points to the culpability of political misfits and felons like Buhari who threaten not only Nigerias unity with their murderous calls on their supporters to kill, but also the future of the masses with their insatiable quest for bloodshed. For the avoidance of doubt, the North has hundreds of quality  presidential materials who have all decided to back President Jonathan both on his personal merits and in the interest of national unity. After all, the bulk of the wealth that the nation parades comes  from his region. I commit myself to a 2011 South-South presidency without apology. In Lessons from Atikus loss, I argue that the current preference, globally, is for sufficiently educated leaders. I draw attention to the fact that even Nigerias West African neighbours like Ghana, Senegal and even Cote d Ivoire are demonstrating a commitment to this ideal. Anybody aspiring to rule Nigeria should have at least a Masters degree, or they wont get there. This is a warning; they had better enrol  on a programme and update their academic profile now. For the avoidance of doubt, no past military Head of State will ever make the Nigerian presidency. It is too late. They wont get there, even if they spend all their loot on campaign. Buhari should go and attend to his cattle business. We need people like Namadi Sambo or Babangida Aliyu, not inflamed dictators.Awolaja is on the politics desk of the Tribune.
