Alibert furniture located at Ademola Adetokunbo Crescent near Amigo supermarket went up in flames yesterday destroying goods worth millions of naira. The fire which started from the last floor of the two-storey building at about 1.25 pm, took men of the FCT Fire Service about three hours to extinguish.According to a witness, who simply gave his name as Victor, 'we were off loading some furniture from the company's truck when somebody just shouted fire. We looked up and saw the fire, all of us ran away.'Another witness said she suspected electrical fault. But the FCT Fire Service Commander, Mr. Jerry Timvey, said, 'we heard about the fire on our emergency control room and we responded immediately by bringing in chemical foam, water fenders, backup tankers and we were able to put out the fire.'He said the service could not say exactly what caused the fire, adding that 'we have to carry out an investigation to establish the cause of the fire.'Mr. Odo Adakole Simon, a Civil Defense senior official said, 'we are civil defense rescue team. We got the information in our Zone 5 base; when we got here, the fire was high. We were able to put the fire to rest.
