Nigerian lifters land in Kenya

FOURTEEN Nigerian weightlifters in the early hours of yesterday left Lagos for Kenya for the London 2012 Olympic qualifiers which begin in Nairobi today.The male lifters who made the trip include Shola Fadolu (62kg), David Adeyemo (69kg), Tajudeen Giwa, Friday Olusola, Felix Ekpo (77kg), Benedict Uloko (94kg), Ifeanyi Ikwuagwu and Tijani Abdulhakeem (105kg), while the women's team is made up of the Commonwealth champion, Augustina Nwokolo who is to compete in the 48kg, Margaret Uwah (58kg), Obioma Okoli (63kg), Oluwatoyin Adesanmi (63kg), Bilikis Otunla (+75kg) and Mariam Usman (+75kg).The officials on the trip include the Technical Director of the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation (NWF), Halilu Muhammed, Head coach, Patrick Bassey, Christopher Nwadei, Paul Adekwuru, Luke Ibeh, Omogbai George Tina and Victoria Omoruyi, who serves as the team's chaperon.The African championship is scheduled to end on April 5.Coach Patrick Bassey speaking before the team's departure assured that the lifters would come back with Olympics tickets saying that 'we are well prepared for this competition and we won't disappoint in Kenya'.It will be recalled that the team was camped in Owerri, Imo State for almost two months in readiness for the weeklong championship.
