Petr Cech, David Ospina Rotation Expected at Arsenal After Arsene Wenger Talks

Published by Bleacher Report on Fri, 18 Sep 2015

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is to continue rotating goalkeepers Petr Cech and David Ospina after assuring the latter he would be handed adequate playing time this season.Ospina made his first appearance of 2015-16 in Wednesday's 2-1 Champions League defeat to Dinamo Zagreb having been ousted from the No. 1 role after Cech's summer arrival from Chelsea.According to Sami Mokbel in theDaily Mail, the 27-year-old Colombian considered moving to Galatasaray after Cech's arrival but remained at the club after being assured by Wenger he would get plenty of opportunities this season. As such, he is set to start in Wednesday's Capital One Cup clash against arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur, but Cech will be reinstated as No. 1 on Saturday for the Premier League match against Chelseain which Arsenal could struggle, per Bleacher Report's Andy Brassell:Cech was Arsenal's only major signing of the summer transfer window and his vast experience from winning numerous trophies in his 11 years with the Blues was expected to be hugely important in strengthening the Gunners' back line. There were a few teething problems as the 33-year-old struggled in a 2-0 home defeat to West Ham United in his Premier League debut for Arsenal on the opening weekend of the season. However, since then he has conceded just one other goal in the leaguein a 2-1 defeat of Crystal Palaceand shown many of the qualities that made him a stalwart at Stamford Bridge for over a decade. The Czech Republic international is undoubtedly Wenger's No. 1 for the Premier League, but Ospina deserves his opportunities after a successful 2014-15 campaign.During last season Ospina successfully oustedWojciech Szczesnynow on loan at Romaand put in a number of fine performances as the Gunners finished third in the league, per Squawka:He is too good a goalkeeper to simply warm the bench and Wenger is clearly looking to keep him happy by handing him starts in the cup competitions. An added benefit of such a strategy is that Cech should stay fresh throughout the season and Wenger looks set to continue his rotation between the posts in the coming weeks.
