Saga of the Heart Continues In My Family

Published by Huffington Post on Wed, 07 Oct 2015

As I write this on October 7, 2015, my younger brother Phil is undergoing open-heart surgery. It was precisely twenty-two years ago (Oct. 7, 1993), that our father Irving died while doctors were attempting to save him from yet another heart incident.Exactly six years and 37 days ago, I had successful quadruple bypass open-heart surgery. This at least allows me to be a living example to my brother that open-heart technology does work.In reality, I feel that my heart incidents have been more karmic experiences than physical challenges. I believe that had I been a more openhearted person, I may have avoided the radical procedure that I experienced six years ago. I also feel that the trauma and suffering I experienced during open-heart surgery burned off a great deal of negative karma, and that shift allows me to be of much more service to others at this point in my life.Still, open-heart surgery is a radical procedure, and I am intending that by the time this post is published, my brother Phil will be out of the woods and recovering with ease and grace. He deserves that and much more. When our father died in 1993, Phil went above and beyond what most people would do to care for his mother (my stepmother), and he's maintained a heroic level of commitment to her wellbeing for the past 22 years. Much of this has been at the expense of sacrificing his dreams in service to another. Now, it's Phil's turn to receive much needed care and healing. My intention is that this situation works out for the highest good of all concerned. -- This feed and its contents are the property of The Huffington Post, and use is subject to our terms.
