Police won't parade Kaduna bomb suspect

Published by Daily Trust on Sun, 29 Apr 2012

The suspected Kaduna bomber of the SOJ Plaza is not an Igbo man but a very tall, black and huge person from another state, the state Police Commissioner, Muhammed J. Abubakar, has said.Abubakar, who spoke to journalist shortly after the blast, said the suspect was unconscious and had sustained deep cut on his leg, hand and back after he was subdued by the vigilant residents.'Yes he is with us. I have interviewed him but he is still unconscious but doctors are observing him at every 10 to 15 minutes to ensure that he stays alive. We have chained his hand and legs. We are not going to parade him because we have stopped parading suspects,' he said.He said three persons died and that 25 persons were injured as a result of the explosion. He commended the residents for their vigilance which helped the police to nap one of the suspects.'It is their vigilance that really helped the situation and helped us get the principal suspect that is now with us receiving treatment at the police clinic. We have commenced interrogation and from what we have gotten so far, he is a stranger from another state. But I will not tell you the state,' Abubakar said.So yesterday, the Deputy Director Public Relations State Security Service, Marilyn Ogar, said a man was arrested in connection to the blast in Kaduna which killed two people.'At 1100 hours, two (2) persons in a cream colored Honda Accord (Academy) car with registration number AL 306 MKA, drove into SOJ Global Communications and Investment Limited Plaza, located at R9, Kontagora road, Ahmadu Bello Way, Kaduna which houses correspondents of The Sun, Thisday and Moments Newspapers,' she said. However, the rumour that the suspect was an Igboman also caused panic among the Igbo residents of Kaduna. Our checks revealed that most Igbo traders in the metropolis have locked their shops for fear of the unknown.Meanwhile, victims of the blast were taken to various hospitals, including Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Shika, Zaria; Rakiya Memorial Hospital, St. Gerald Catholic Hospital and 44 Army Reference Hospital, among others. Our correspondents gathered from the Medical Director of Barau Dikko Hospital, Dr Hussein Yahaya, that four victims of the blast were receiving treatment at the accident and emergency unit of the hospital. At Rakiya Hospital, our correspondents saw five victims. One of them, who had injury on his buttocks, discharged himself without waiting for the doctors' orders.
