Dude, You Can Leave the Winter Coat at the Airport

Published by Huffington Post on Mon, 07 Dec 2015

Do you know what sucks' Lugging around a parka like a winter Eskimo. This post originally appeared on Map Happy. Turns out a few selectairports offer passengers a winter coat. I could have definitely used this the last couple of times I flew in and out of JFK while whacking everyone with a heavy coat and backpack in the plane cabin. Not everyone has the privilege of flying business class. Here'sa comprehensive list of airportsthat offer winter coat checks. If there's any locations that can be added to the list, please let us know! John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) Since 2014, JetBlue has been partnering with CoatChex to bring the coat check-in to JFK. Please note JetBlue has plenty of routes to the Caribbean via Miami. Cough. The digital kiosk--'cause, human interaction, ugh--stores the customer's futuretravel plans and a picture of what you look like so the system can have the coat ready by the time youreturn from vacation. If travelerssomehow don't make it back or fly back on a different airline, CoatChex will mail the coat back free of charge. The kiosk is located in Terminal 5 right "near where passengers clear security" so can be a bit hard to get to if you're not in the area. The reported cost is approximately $2 per day or $10 per week. Frankfurt Airport (FRA) Honestly, the Germans kindabeat the Americans to it. Frankfurt's coat check costs '.50 euro per day. There is no discount for longer time periods. (That's '3.5 euro per week and '15 euro every 30 days.) Three locations are spread across Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, but just be forewarned that if you don't pick it up in three months, it's going to get auctioned off. Your vacation has to end at some point! Or it could be a great place to pick up a new jacket. Incheon International Airport (ICN) Both Asiana and Korean Air offer coat check options. It seems to be kind of a seasonal thing but a great starting off point before cavorting off in Phuket. I know the real reason you're over there. Both airlines were the original precursors for the program. Asiana started itin 1999; Korean launched their coat check service more recently in 2010. Details are a bit hazy but travel blogger Stefan Krasowski posted this press releasea few years ago: This service is available for all passengers travelling internationally from Korea with either Korean Air or a code-sharing flight of Korean Air.< /br> Passengers' coat will be hung on a sturdy plastic hanger wrapped in plastic sheet during storage. To store the coat, passengers simply show their boarding pass at Hanjin Cargo counter located in Area A of the passenger terminal on the third floor of Incheon International Airport. To retrieve the coat after their return, they only need to show the storage receipt at the same counter. The coat storage service is available from 4:30 a.m. ~ 9 p.m. every day. A passenger can store one coat for five days for free. After that free period, a surcharge of KRW2,500 per day will apply. Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) Toronto's airport alsooffers coat check but it's a bit more hidden and less publicized. That's probably because it is, like... inside a normal store. The retailer, Travel Storein Terminal 3, is located before the security departures level and offers Canadians the chance to check a coat for $2 per day or $9 per week. Hours of operation are 5 a.m. to 12 a.m. every day and the best phone number to contact is (905) 612-6677.
