THE last may not have been heard of last Saturdays presidential polls, generally adjudged fair, as Lagos State governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, warned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) not to try what they did last week in Lagos State.Speaking during a rally at Ifako-Ijaye area of the state, the governor, who is the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) candidate in Tuesdays governorship polls, said the PDP has done it again, what they know best to do. They have rigged themselves in again, but they dare not try it in Lagos next Tuesday.Fasholas remark was echoed at the weekend by the ACN, which described the presidential polls as the most systematically rigged. The PDP has been boasting that it will clinch the governorship election in Lagos State and elsewhere on the strength of the result of the presidential election. But we must warn strongly that a repeat of the crooked strategy that spewed out those cooked figures will have consequences that no one has yet imagined, the party said in a statement issued in Ilorin, Kwara State, by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.God, in His infinite wisdom, has seen it deemed fit to put this election on a Tuesday, a day of victory in Yoruba (ojo isegun). We should go all out and vote for victory against enemies of Nigeria, Fashola said in his native Yoruba language.Cautioning against errors in casting of votes by the voters, he lamented high invalid votes recorded in the presidential election. He stressed the need for voters to stay behind at polling units, and guard against rigging. He said: Dont allow them to steal your votes. Anyone caught trying to steal votes or perpetrate multiple voting is going to jail. Though, it appears some of them are used to jail. In some places, as we witnessed in the last election, there were more votes declared than voters.Fashola also alleged that members of the PDP are perfecting plans to cause confusion and rig the governorship polls. He said: Our best is yet to come. I have become more experienced on the job, and if Lagosians thought they have seen the best, I want to say they are yet to see anything. But speaking through its National Vice Chairman (Southwest), Alhaji Tajudeen Oladipo, the PDP expressed surprise that the ACN could talk about rigging even when in the last election, ACN leaders lost in their units in Lagos in the full glare of the public. Was it rigging that made Fashola lose his unit during the presidential election Was it rigging that made Bola Tinubu narrowly win his unit with 166 votes to PDPs 140 votes They are crying now because they know their fish is out of the water. PDP will maintain the winning streak next Tuesday and anyone who does not like that can go jump into the Atlantic Ocean.
