Blantyre draw good for Eagles -Ikpeba

Published by Tribune on Mon, 11 Jun 2012

FORMER Super Eagles striker, Victor Ikpeba has said that the 1-1 draw the Nigeria side secured against Malawi on Saturday in the 2014 World Cup qualifying game in Blantyre is a very good result considering the build up to the game. The former African footballer of the year said that nobody should blame the boys because they did their very best in the match."I must say that they did well to earn a 1-1 draw in that game. We must accept the fact that the build up to that game was not too good and the team is just evolving after Stephen Keshi took over some months ago."If we continue to win our home games and then win or draw away matches nothing will stop us from qualifying from this group."It would have been better if the team had defended the goal by Gabriel Reuben to give us all three points. But the one point from the game is good because if we had lost, it would have been disastrous".Ikpeba who is also a member of the technical committee of the Nigeria Football Federation boasted that he is sure the team will win all their home matches."The moment we win all our home matches, then we can go out to battle for the three points in our away matches. For me it is a good thing that we did not lose the match."We are on the right path and Nigerians should be rest assured that the Super Eagles will qualify from this group," Ikpeba said.
