Oshiomhole's allegation on road rehabilitation shocking -Minister

Published by Tribune on Mon, 11 Jun 2012

MINISTER of Works, Mr Mike Onolememen, has described as shocking, the allegations by the Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole, that the recently approved project for the rehabilitation of Ada-Okere-Ukoni-Amedokhian road by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) was non-existence and that the project was smuggled into the federal budget by the minister. The minister, in a statement signed by his special assistant (media), Mr Tony Ikpasaja and made available to the Nigerian Tribune, said he was disappointed that such misleading falsehood could be propagated by Oshiomhole, who was expected to be happy over infrastructural development in the state.Contrary to the claims, Onolememen said the road projects had been designed and introduced into the 2010 and 2011 federal budgets long before he was appointed minister, adding that it was unpardonable for a governor who had spent four years in office to be ignorant of the existence of the said road in his domain. The minister said the Ada-Okere-Ukoni-Amedokhian road was not the only road project being executed by the Federal Government in Edo State, as other projects, the Auchi-Okene expressway and repairs of the erosion-damaged portion of Ayoiriri-Fugar road, were also receiving attention. The minister said Governor Oshiomhole had never rehabilitated any federal road in Benin City or elsewhere in Edo State, contrary to his claims of rehabilitation works by his government.
