Jonathan commends Dangote, commissions cement plant

Published by Tribune on Tue, 12 Jun 2012

PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has said that the people abusing him should continue to do so as he will continue to honour those who will move the country forward like Alhaji Aliko Dangote.President Jonathan stated this at Obajana, Kogi State, on Monday while commissioning 5.25 Million Metric Tonnes Per Annum Line 3 and the groundbreaking ceremony for the 3.0 Million Metric Tonnes Per Annum Line 4 Dangote Cement Plant. He said when he gave Alhaji Dangote the national honour of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), some people challenged him, asking why he should give such a national honour to the business tycoon. He noted that about 10 people who had been given such award in Nigeria did not contribute five per cent of what Dangote had done to the nation's economy. The president, however, said Nigeria would become the largest exporter of cement product within the shortest possible time, even as he noted that development could only thrive in an atmosphere of peace and harmony.According to him, his government will replicate the success recorded in the cement industry through collaborative efforts of the Federal Government and Dangote in other aspects of the economy like agriculture, automobile, etc. This, he noted, would bring rapid development to the country and ensure the right quality of life for the citizenry. While assuring that his government was determined to aggressively pursue employment generation, he called on the private sector to complement the efforts of government.According to him, Dangote have employed over 20, 000 Nigerians. He, therefore, called on investors to take a cue from him.
