Suspected robbers rob with grinded pepper in Ilorin

An Ilorin chief magistrate court has ordered the remand of three suspected robbers for allegedly robbing a commercial motorcycl operator, Gana Joseph of Opo-Malu area of the state.The accused, Simoni Ogundeji, 24, Oladoye Gbenga, 25 and Abdulazeez Afeez, 20, were brought before the court on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and and receipt of stolen property.The offences, according to law, contrave Sections 97, 317 and 298 of the Penal Code.The police First Information Report (FIR) on the matter stated that two of the accused (Simoni and Gbenga) were alleged to have on May 12, 2012, criminally conspired and dishonestly stopped the victim to convey them to Metropolitan Square area on Asa Dam, Ilorin under the pretence of looking for a parcel of land to buy.'On getting there, the suspects asked the victim to carry them again to Airport area, Ilorin but getting to NASFAT village near Eyenkorin, Simoni allegedly dropped from the motorcycle and held Gana Joseph on his neck while Gbenga applied grinded pepper into his victim's eyes, Simoni succeeded in carrying away Joseph's Bajaj motorcycle with registration number #' 190 FST'.'But the victim was able to subdue Gbenga at the scene, who led the police to the arrest of the latter.'Investigation conducted by the Adewole Police Divisional headquarter, Ilorin revealed that Simoni had sold the motorcycle to Abdulazeez Afeez of Kishi town, Oyo State at the rate of N40,000.It was also revealed that the duo, Simoni and Gbenga were members of a syndicate who specialised in terrorism and robbing innocent citizens of their belongings with the use of grinded pepper and Afeez was a receiver of stolen properties.The prosecutor, Inspector Moshood Adebayo, however, objected to the bail of the accused and urged the court to remand them at the federal prison, Oke Kura, Ilorin, pending the outcome of the investigation into the matter.The chief magistrate, Mr Lekan Adegbite, agreed with the prosecutor and ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody.
