Ogun LG poll: PPN sues OGSIEC over exclusion of candidates

THE Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN), Ogun State chapter, has filed a notice of law suit against the chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) for the omission of its candidates from the provisional list of candidates cleared for the local council poll scheduled to hold in the state this weekend.Solicitors to the party, MJS Partners, in the notice of law suit addressed to the OGSIEC chairman and dated July 15, 2012, signed by Dr Yemi Oke, said they were acting on behalf of the PPN in respect of the omission of the party's candidates cleared for the election, as published in the Sunday Punch of same date.Copied in the notice, which was made available to the Nigerian Tribune, were the state Attorney-General, the state Chief Judge, state Director, State Security Service (SSS) and the state Commissioner of Police.Describing the omission as illegal, the letter, entitled Notice of Law Suit on Illegal Exclusion of PPN Candidates, said 'as the counsel for PPN, we write to formally register our objection to illegal and unjust treatment of our client's candidates through unilateral acts of your commission.'By this letter, we hereby give your commission 24 hours (one clear day) from the service and receipt of this letter, to reverse the illegal exclusion of our client's candidates, failing which we shall be left with no alternative but to immediately seek judicial remedies against your commission without delay.
