Group tasks INEC on credible polls

THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been urged to adequately prepare for the upcoming election in Ondo State, just as political parties have been advised to ensure that party agents are properly trained.A report yesterday on the July 14 governorship election in Edo State monitored by the Conference of Non-Governmental Organisations (CONGOS) also called on the electoral body to make provision for handicapped voters.A statement by the President and Director of Publicity of the organisation, Obasanmi Jude and Destiny Enabulele, said they observed some challenges faced by the blind during the Edo election and advised INEC to provide braille in some polling units to assist them.The statement also called on INEC to ensure election materials get to polling units and stations early.'While commending the peaceful nature of party agents, we recommend that once a party is fielding a candidate for an elective position as a matter of policy, they should ensure they provide agents in all the polling units. They should be trained on their core roles and especially at the polling centres. This will help to improve the quality of their participation during elections,' it said.
