Ogun PDP begins reconciliation, elects new officers

Published by Guardian on Mon, 06 Aug 2012

TO ensure lasting peace, Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the weekend began a reconciliation process to end its protracted crisis. The party also held its state congress to elect officers to run its affairs for the next four years. Before now, the party's affairs had been administered by a caretaker committee due to the unresolved feud between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Alhaji Buruji Kashamu factions. At the election held in Abeokuta, Senator Dipo Odujirin was elected the party's new chairman. At the end of the election, supervised by a three-member PDP national officer, led by Alhaji Ibrahim Sidi Bamali, Yaya Ahmed was elected the deputy chairman.Others are: Dapo Adeyemi (secretary), Samson Babatunde Adefioye (treasurer), Mrs. Nike Osibo Oyewunmi (financial secretary), Bidemi Osunbiyi (publicity secretary), Mr. Olarenwaju Ojo (legal adviser) and Mr. Dayo Fawosire (organising secretary).Odujirin, in his acceptance speech, appealed to all the party members to join hands with him in his effort towards 'healing the wounds that we have collectively inflicted on our party'.Though an Ilaro court had given recognition to the Buruji Kashamu faction, Odujirin said the new executive would reconcile all the factions within the party, insisting that henceforth, there was only one PDP in the state. The election of the executive, he said, had put an end to any division within its fold.'There is a need to change the perception among the electorate that our party is an undisciplined election winning machine. Indiscipline of whatever coloration cannot and will no longer be tolerated,' he said.According to him 'We will embark on a reformation of our state party secretariat. The secretariat will be appropriately re-furbished and equipped with state-of-the-art information technology and infrastructure. We cannot continue to do things the same way and expect to get different results. Change indeed has come to Ogun State PDP!'In achieving the tasks and goals that we have set for ourselves, we will be guided by the principles of teamwork, justice, equity, internal democracy and cohesion'.
