Brazil holds Falconets

THE Nigeria Women's under 20 team, The Falconets drew 1-1 against Brazil on Wednesday in their second FIFA World Cup game as they missed the first chance to qualify for the quarterfinals of the competition.Francisca Ordega's fantastic effort from outside the area in the 44th minute was the difference in an exciting game that saw chances apleny for both sides.Brazil started the stronger with Ketlen coming close in the 16th and 18th minutes.The South Americans continued to press but were undone by a glaring lack of cutting edge in the final third.The Falconets eventually began to carve some chances as they grew in confidence.Desire Oparanozie produced a brilliant cross from the left that caused panic in the Brazil penalty area on the half hour but Danielle read the danger and collected easily.Nigeria were now on the ascendancy and duly got their reward when Ordega curled home a delicious effort just before half time.It could have been even better for Nigeria before the break had Oparanozie's fantastic effort not gone narrowly wide.Brazil began with great urgency after the break and scored through Ingrid on 54 minutes but the goal was correctly chalked off for offside.The Brazilians continued to torment the Nigerian goal with their set pieces been especially dangerous.Three minutes from the end, Giovanna Oliviera flicked home a deserved equalizer following an exemplary freekick from Thais Guedes.Both sides had gilt edged opportunities to win it in time added on but failed to convert gilt-edged opportunities.
